Gradstein's tenement house

Gradstein's tenement house

Aleja Najświętszej Maryi Panny 35, 42-200 Częstochowa

Built in 1900 for Markus Gradstein and his wife Augusta. Markus Gradstein was a significant banker in Częstochowa, founder of Częstochowa Mutual Credit Society for Industry and Commerce. The Society has funded the purchase of land for the construction of the world famous cotton mill Motte in Częstochowa (later Elanex).
High as for the buildings in the Avenues - a three-story, neo-baroque building quickly draws attention to its six Ionic half-columns placed at the height of the second and third floor. Rectangular windows, circular arches are topped with bas-reliefs and with panels under the windows. The balconies with wrought iron railings and amphora supporting columns are also monumental. Inside the building there are 4-meter-high rooms with exquisite stucco, oak floors and high tiled stoves.
