
Częstochowa is a city with a strong sport traditions. It's here, in a nearby Wyrazów track, Robert Kubica started his racing career. Famous Polish boxer Jerzy Kulej was born here. Football players such as Krzynówek, Kiełbowicz, Brzęczek, Błaszczykowski started their sporting careers in local sport club RKS Raków Częstochowa.
People such as Andrzej Szewiński, Piotr Gruszka, Dawid Murek or Marcin Nowak were all part of volleyball AZS team. Successful pilot Janusz Darocha was a member of Częstochowa Aeroclub and speedway riders Sławomir Drabik and Sebastian Ułamek were members of Włókniarz club.
Częstochowa native Grzegorz Gronkiewicz was a Polish champion in cycling.
Częstochowa academic athletes had fantastic results in athletics, table tennis, volleyball, teakwondo and in football.
Among famous historical successes, one have to mention recent victory of RKS Raków Częstochowa that saw its players win Polish Cup and a medal place in Polish Ekstraklasa football games – all this exactly for the centenary of the club's existence.
