Art Nouveau tenement

Katedralna 8, Częstochowa
The tenement after a complete refurbishment in 2006 revealed hidden treasures – a bourgeois monument the city had never had before: with beautiful interiors full of artistic details.
The neo-Gothic building (built probably before 1914) is an example of a bourgeois tenement from the beginning of the 20th century.
A two-storey front elevation is characterised by pseudo risalits and two-storey bay windows topped with triangle finial; rusticated wall with tracery, pinnacles and arcaded friezes. The tenement is topped with a stone tracery balustrade separating it from the mansard roof. The gate with double iron door and barred windows with tracery and geometric motives.
Inside the following elements were preserved:
A neo-Baroque iron stair balustrade – mouldings, wall paintings
, Artistic neo-Baroque joinery (e.g. in the door supraporta).

Richness of survived and recreated ornaments classifies the building as an important monument of cultural heritage and an example everyday life aesthetics of the Częstochowa bourgeoisie. The tenement is located in ul. Katedralna 8, in the city centre, it was entered to the Register of Monuments and is under conservator’s protection.
